SMART Disk Health Interpreter
Paste your disk's SMART RAW values and find out in seconds whether it is healthy, needs caution, or is critical, plus exactly what to do next.
Enter the RAW values from CrystalDiskInfo / smartctl. The only truly safe value for reallocated, pending and uncorrectable counts is 0.
Fill at least one attribute to see an interpretation.
Pro tip: a clicking, slow or already-failing disk should be powered OFF, not scanned. Repeated scans on a dying drive can turn recoverable data into permanent loss.

Every modern hard disk and SSD continuously monitors itself through SMART. Tools like CrystalDiskInfo or smartctl read these attributes, but the numbers only help if you know which ones actually predict failure. The dangerous attributes are the sector-health ones, where the professional rule is simple: the only safe value is 0. If your drive already shows problems, see our HDD data recovery and failed hard disk recovery services.
Which SMART values are dangerous?
Reallocated Sectors (05), Current Pending Sector (C5), Reported Uncorrectable (BB) and Offline Uncorrectable (C6) should all read 0. Any non-zero value means the surface is losing sectors, and a growing count means active failure. Spin Retry (0A) above 0 points to a mechanical motor problem. UDMA CRC errors (C7) are usually a cable or connection fault rather than the disk itself. High Power-On Hours (09) and temperatures above 55 °C add wear over time.
Signs of a failing disk
Clicking or beeping noises, sudden freezes, files that disappear or refuse to open, very slow copies and a yellow or red SMART status are all warning signs. The most important rule when data matters: if the disk is clearly failing, power it OFF and do not keep scanning it. Choosing the right lab matters too, read our guide on how to choose a data recovery center.
Frequently asked questions
What is SMART?
SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) is a built-in health system in hard disks and SSDs. It tracks attributes such as reallocated sectors, read errors and temperature so failures can be predicted before total loss.
Is a reallocated sector dangerous?
Yes. The only truly safe value for reallocated (05) and pending (C5) sectors is 0. Even a single reallocated sector means the surface has started to fail, and a rising count is a strong sign of imminent failure. Back up immediately.
What does a yellow warning in CrystalDiskInfo mean?
Yellow means at least one attribute, often reallocated or pending sectors or CRC errors, has crossed its threshold. The disk still works but is no longer reliable. Treat it as a backup-now signal, not a minor cosmetic warning.
SMART looks good but the disk is slow, why?
Slowness with a clean SMART report can come from bad-but-not-yet-reported sectors, a failing cable, near-full storage, fragmentation or early mechanical wear. If the slowness comes with clicking or freezing, stop using the disk and consult a professional.
