In normal recovery cases as much as in forensic ones, this disciplined approach guarantees data integrity.
Step 1: An Exact Clone. We do not intervene directly on the sick disk. First we take a sector-by-sector clone. An image file in which bad sectors are skipped and the rest is transferred with integrity. From this point on the sick disk goes on the shelf, and all work proceeds on the copy. This rule seriously raises the success rate.
Step 2: Hash Verification. The integrity of the clone is confirmed by SHA-256 hash comparison. The client sees these values in the report.
Step 3: Logical Repair or Physical Repair. If the fault is logical (file deletion, wiping by format, partition-table corruption, file-system damage), the file system is rebuilt on the clone and deleted records are found from table traces. If there is a physical fault (head crash, motor seizure, board burnout, platter scratch), donor-disk matching is performed in an ISO 14644 cleanroom environment, and a head transfer or electronic-board replacement is carried out.
Step 4: Data Extraction and Verification. The openability of the extracted files is tested. Corrupt or truncated files are presented in a separate list.
Step 5: Encrypted Delivery. We transfer the data to the client on a new disk encrypted with AES-256. The decryption key is sent through a separate channel. The disk returns to Mersin by insured courier.
Step 6: Secure Disposal. With the client's approval, the clone and the sick disk are wiped in the laboratory to the DoD 5220.22-M or NIST 800-88 standard. A certificate is provided.

The Cases We Most Often Encounter in Mersin
RAID 5 collapse, not one but two disks going at the same time. In SSDs, a controller-chip fault is often not physical damage but a firmware lockup. It can be re-awakened with a command, and the data extracted with a NAND-chip reading station. For academic data this is a critical recovery line.
Ransomware encryption. A mid-size manufacturer in the Tarsus OIZ realized that all accounting and ERP files had been encrypted by an attacker who infiltrated the server overnight. In ransomware cases, decryption is not always possible, but there are alternatives such as recovery from backups, partial retrieval from a corrupted VSS shadow copy, and a structural counter-solution from the raw disk. In such cases, notification must first be made to USOM. If personal data is affected, notification to the KVKK within 72 hours is a regulatory requirement.
Water damage. Mersin's humid climate and sea salt seep into electronic equipment in homes and workplaces along the Mediterranean coast over the years. A backup disk in an exporter's warehouse was found rusted in a damp store after a northeasterly storm. If the platters are removed before they rust, the data is saved; once the rust reaches the platter, the odds drop. Quick action makes the difference.

The first step is a backup strategy. The 3-2-1 rule: 3 copies, 2 different media, 1 in a different location.
